Bourbon Old Fashioned with Sugar Instead of Simple Syrup

  • 2 ounces of bourbon of your choice
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar 
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 3 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • Orange slice or peel to garnish
  • Optional maraschino cherry to garnish


  1. Add your sugar and bitters into a whiskey glass
  2. Add your water and stir sugar gently until nearly dissolved
  3. Add large ice cubes (square or round) to your mixture
  4. Add your bourbon over the ice
  5. Stir all components together
  6. Add orange peel and optional cherry to add your final touch
